The group Screens, for example, studied jazz at the conservatories of Ghent and Brussels. They give jazz a modern twist and bring dreamy compositions full of influences from electronics, classical music and pop. Wasdaman is the new project by pianist Bas Bulteel and brings a powerful mix that crosses over between progressive rock and contemporary jazz: they present their first album during Jazz in ’t Park.

HAST is a young Ghent band that plays instrumental jazz, and also has its roots in rock and improvisation. Their music are soundscapes with elements of noise. Eclectiv was founded in 2016 in the Ghent conservatory and does justice to its group name: an eclectic mix of jazz, rock and funk for a wide audience. Another progeny of the Ghent conservatory is the Jamaican Jazz Orchestra: these eight musicians bring jazz and reggae closer together and play new material for the first time at Jazz in ’t Park.

Nagløed got their music from jam sessions full of jazz, pop and electronics, while Brazzmatazz gets their influences from all over the world, from New Orleans to the Balkans. But the major crowd puller from Ghent is undoubtedly Flat Earth Society. This world-famous big band is celebrating its twentieth birthday and is bringing a unique anniversary program, especially for Jazz in ’t Park. And of course the second big name is Jef Neve: the versatile pianist and composer, who wrote the music for "Sprakeloos" and "In Flanders’ Fields", worked together with the Dutch trumpet player Teus Nobel for his most recent album.
