On Saturday, February 24, the classic cycling spring kicks off in the Kuipke with the "Omloop Het Nieuwsblad." The race starts at 8 a.m. and will finish at 5 p.m.
Are you, like the professionals, eager to start the cycling year on a high note? Then join the "Omloop Het Nieuwsblad Cyclo" yourself.
You can choose between 4 distances and 2 starting locations. Depart from Ninove with the option of 60, 80, or 120 km, cycling through the Flemish Ardennes.
For the true enthusiasts, there's a route of 150 km, starting and ending in Ghent at 't Kuipke in the Citadel Park, just a 5-minute walk from our hotel.
As in previous years, you'll encounter cobblestone sections and many Flemish slopes.
The well-known classics that will be part of the route this year include Paddestraat, Kerkgate, Haaghoek, Molenberg, Leberg, Berendries, and Valkenberg. And, of course, the iconic duo that should not be missed: the Muur van Geraardsbergen and Bosberg.
